What the screen shows, top to bottom

Symbols you may see

| Full battery / Low battery | The battery indicator shows during measurement; when the low-battery mark blinks, replace all batteries with new ones. |

Stored readings and averages
The UA-651 automatically stores up to 60 blood pressure and pulse measurements, numbered from newest to oldest. With the display off, press and hold the START button and release it when the average appears; the monitor then shows each stored reading with its data number in turn, from the latest, and switches itself off after the last one.
How to take a reading you can trust
- Sit with your back supported and feet flat, and rest for five minutes before you start.
- Cuff at heart level on bare skin, arm resting on a table — the same arm every time.
- Take two readings a minute apart and write both down; don't pick the one you prefer.
- Note the time and anything unusual — before or after medication, feeling unwell — next to the numbers.
Photographing this display for a scan
- Wait until the heart mark stops blinking and the SYS, DIA and PUL values are all displayed; the monitor powers off about a minute later, so don't linger.
- Include the side of the screen with the pressure bar so the segment and any IHB symbol are captured with the numbers.
- When recalling memory, readings advance automatically - have the camera ready and shoot as each one appears, or you will need to restart the recall.
- Shoot square-on to the screen; the SYS/DIA/PUL labels printed on the case help you match numbers to labels in the photo.
How do I review stored readings on the A&D UA-651?
With the display off, press and hold START until the average appears, then let go: the monitor cycles through up to 60 stored readings automatically, newest first, showing the data number and 'M' in the corner, then turns itself off. Because they scroll on their own, sit with your log or camera ready and note each reading's number and values as it appears. Pressing START during recall switches the monitor off.
Should I log the average the UA-651 shows first?
You can, but label it clearly as the memory average, since it summarises everything still stored rather than a particular day. Individual readings are what most clinicians want, and a recalled reading shows a data number rather than a date, so write the date and time yourself when you record each measurement. What do I do when the IHB symbol shows with my reading?
Record the numbers as displayed and add a note that the IHB symbol appeared. A&D's manual explains it means an irregular heartbeat was detected during the measurement and that slight shivering or shaking can also trigger it, so sit quietly and take another reading after a few minutes. Log both attempts if you like, marking which showed the symbol; if it appears frequently, A&D recommends mentioning it to your physician.
